The Chillaa App for social anxiety

The Chillaa app is an innovative initiative designed to support Finnish youth in managing social anxiety and stress. Aimed at adolescents, this app incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles in an engaging, interactive format. It offers young people practical tools to better understand and manage their emotions, empowering them to navigate anxiety-inducing situations such as meeting new people, public speaking, and performing under pressure.

By offering easy-to-follow, gamified exercises, the Chillaa app helps young people build emotional resilience and reduce social anxiety. It is an accessible resource, free for all Finnish youth, designed to make self-help and mental health management easy to engage with in today’s fast-paced world.

The app was developed through a collaboration with Adventure Club, Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), and Duodecim Publishing, ensuring it is rooted in expert guidance and user-centered design. The app is aimed at providing young people with the tools they need to face everyday challenges with confidence, while also reducing the stigma around mental health.

The Louhento Foundation played a crucial role in facilitating the development of the Chillaa app. While contributing financially, the foundation’s involvement went beyond just funding. It helped guide the project’s strategic direction, supported the design process, and ensured the app’s accessibility to a wide audience of young people. The foundation’s commitment to mental health and youth well-being made it an essential partner in bringing this initiative to life.

Early research into the app’s effectiveness shows promising results, with users experiencing significant reductions in social anxiety. This innovative approach to mental health has the potential to transform how young people cope with anxiety and stress, helping them thrive in social environments that they may otherwise find daunting.

Chillaa highlights the power of digital solutions in making mental health support more accessible and relevant for the younger generation.
